Testing your private well each year helps ensure your water is safe to drink and use. Regular testing can identify bacteria, chemicals, and other changes in water quality that may affect your health.

It is recommended to test your well once each year for:
Total coliform bacteria
E. coli

Types of Well Water Testing
The completed testing kit must be returned to the Callaway County Health Department on the day of collection before 11:30 am. We will send the submitted test kit to the Missouri State Public Health Laboratory via our daily courier.
Bacterial Testing
Collected by home owner: $10 (payable to DHSS)
Collected by environmental public health specialist: $25
Chemical Testing
Cost: $25
Must be collected by environmental public health specialist.
Bacterial + Chemical Testing
Cost: $40
Must be collected by environmental public health specialist.
